Simon’s experience: UK vasectomy

Hi Everyone! Today was the day of my vasectomy, 16th December 2000, I’d already been asked if I would like to go in the previous week but I turned it down. Anyway, Friday night (the night before) I didn’t sleep at all, I was very nervous, telling the lads at the gym didn’t help me either. I suppose I was after a bit of sympathy, HA! no chance, I’ll tell you now, some of the stories would make best sellers. I’d already seen the man who was going to do the operation so I just laughed about them.

The day arrived, I was booked in for 10:45 am Saturday morning, great, I’ll have a lie-in I thought, after all, I didn’t sleep very well at all. A lie-in! not a chance, they were on the phone to me at 8:30 am that morning, “Can you come in for 9:45 am? We’ve had a cancellation”. So I went with my wife.

When I got there the waiting room had a lady waiting for her husband, and a bloke sat with his wife, nobody was saying a thing, so I broke the silence with a couple of stories my mates had told me, great, we were talking quite happily now. It was brought to a sudden stop as the ladies husband came back into the room, everyone looked, I thought to myself “C’mon tell us what it was like then”. But he just put his coat on and said “Right let’s go”. But he was smiling, so that helped.

Then a nurse came for the other lad, at this point, I could feel my hands starting to sweat. To cut a long story short, I finally got in to have my operation and was laid on the bed baring all, in came the man to do the operation, the nurse got me prepared, cleaned my tackle, etc and told me to relax, which at this point, I must admit I was. Had the injection to numb the area and away we went, OOPS! I felt the cut, I twinged and told him, “No problem, we’ll give you another injection”. It worked, but because I’d felt the first cut I was very nervous, that was it, I broke into a cold sweat, my breathing altered and I thought I was going to pass out, I asked for a cold wet cloth for my head and my color finally returned. When he did the other side it was no problem because I knew what to expect.

It’s been eight hours now since the operation, I have a bit of discomfort and I’m taking the pain killers as instructed and I’ll be going back on Thursday to have my stitches taken out and collect my sample bottles, so hopefully I’ll be ok soon. Thanks for reading, I just wanted to let people know of my experience.
