Snorklemaster’s experience: UK Childfree story

Hi, there I am Gary from Northumberland in the UK. Just had mine done on the 18th of March 2002. I had thought about it for a long time “even though” everybody you know seems to be saying “So when are you going to have some kids”!

I was so surprised how easy the whole process was, some people I know said it was like the Spanish inquisition when they went to their doctor for the initial consultation. I don’t know – maybe they want more people this time round to get the snip?

So anyway back to the story. I had a chat with my doctor in Dec 2001 “nice man and another Gary”, he explained what the procedure was and that it was not reversible. I next popped back to another appointment with my partner and it was all relaxed and informal – he said are you sure? I think she said snip snip snip to the question.

I requested a general anesthetic “cause I am soft” hey and why not. I like to do everything first class! So know it was a matter of waiting for my hospital appointment, the doctor said about 3 months was the turn round time.

When the letter came it was in Feb 2002 it explained that I had to take a pee sample some tight fitting undies “oooh matron” and not to eat anything 4 hours before the operation.

On the day I got asked by a number nurses and doctors “are you sure”, so there is always an opportunity to stop the bus at any time. So I eventually got wheeled away knocked out… zzz. When I came around the first thing I said was “Is that it”! After the first three days I was walking around like John Wayne but thats cool.

I can safely say I needed no pain killer lost no sleep, it is not that I am a really tough guy. But the thing is a doddle. At the moment I am off work recovering its 4 days after the operation. I will be going back to work after a week off and have been doing some Tai Chi. I will be back to running and doing very vigorous sport in a fortnight. So then guys I really don’t know what all the fuss is about.
