Pregnant after vasectomy
Jun 18th 2008adminPregnant after vasectomy
From Peter:-
I had a vasectomy in January 08. After 6 weeks and approximately 35 ejaculations, my first analysis was zero. I had my second analysis 6 weeks later, after approximately 20 ejaculations. Zero sperm. My girlfriend claims she is pregnant AFTER the second analysis. (We used birth control until I got the results of the second analysis.) What is the likelihood of this?
There is an extremely small chance that a man can get a woman pregnant in this type of situation. Confirmation of the pregnancy with a pelvic ultrasound demonstrating a fetal sac would be the first objective. A repeat semen analysis with a centrifuged (pelleted) specimen at a different but specialized laboratory would also be recommended. If the pregnancy is real and the semen analysis still shows no sperm then a paternity test would be useful to determine whether or not someone is the father. This can be done as early as 16 weeks gestation if an amniocentesis is performed.
