Vasectomy reversal – Did I do any damage?

From Bill:-
I recently had a vasectomy reversal, epididymovasostomy. Four weeks after the reversal I ejaculated for the first time and once everyday consecutively for five days. The fifth day there was some blood present in the semen. My question is, is it normal to see blood after the fifth ejaculation and not the first four or did I ejaculate to frequently and do some damage? I feel fine and have no pain or discomfort but the sight of the blood has me concerned. Thank you for your time.

Some men will notice a brownish or bloody discoloration in their ejaculate after a vasectomy reversal. This usually represents a small amount of blood that was introduced into the male reproductive tract at the time of surgery. It can take several ejaculates before that blood becomes apparent in the man’s semen. Ejaculation four weeks after an epididymovasostomy should not raise any concern. I usually allow couples to start ejaculating as early as two weeks after surgery and have not seen any decreased success rate from doing so. However, this may be due to differences in technique and I would always encourage patients to follow the directions of their respective physicians performing the vasectomy reversal.
