My experience
Thought I'd share my vasecomy experience:
For the record, I'm 30 married no kids. My wife and I agreed to remain child-free, as we have nieces, nephews and pets.
In the initial consult, the doc basically told me a set of stories inclined to make me really think about what I was getting into... the stories included:
Man who gets vas, wife dies, remarries...
Man gets vas, doesn't do sperm tests, gets pregnant...
After storytelling, doc told me to go home, talk with wife, and call him up if I still wanted to go through with it. He was probably a little leary about myself being young (and maybe a little stupid about what I was getiing myself into), but after meeting, the doc was happy to do it for me.
Procedure was Thursday Jun 16th. The worst part of the vasectomy was the shot (in particular, the SECOND shot), and even that wasn't all that bad. I've had root canals and extractions from a go-cart accident before, and the shot is comparable, just in a different part of the body.
Funny things said during the procedure:
MistaRyte (to the nurse): Remember, it's REALLY cold in here.
MistaRyte (after the cautery): What's that smell?
Doctor: You.
Wife drove me home where I climbed into bed, where I would stay for 48 hours. Couldn't feel much of anything for the first 4-6 hours because I was still numb; after the drugs wore off, pain, swelling, and a bit of bruising started to take hold. The pain was never a stabbing pain, just a dull ache, and it was always bearable. Having an ice pack really helps.
I was able to move to the living room couch on the 3rd day (Sunday). Returned to work on the 4th day (Monday), with the ice pack. All through this I wore a meshy runners jock, which I think was a mistake. The new hair growing in is able to "push" though the material. If I had it all over to do again, I'd get a cloth jock.
By the 7th day, I was able to return to normal exercise, and ditched the jock. Took my first "test drive" that day as well. Apart from a small scablike piece of dried blood (the size of a pen tip), everything appeared normal. Hasn't appeared since then.
Stitches/scabbing fell out on the 9th - 10th day post-op.
At one time, I had a dull pain when I urinated. Only once, though... unsure if it's related to the vasectomy.
I took pain pills for 2-3 days, got off them, then finished them off on the 5-7th days post op.
No problems 2 weeks later... will follow up in the group with the sperm test results should I remember.
