One of Dr. Karpman's patients vasectomy recovery

This page shows the location of surgery, and post vasectomy recovery of one of Dr. Karpman's patients. Unfortunately the pictures are out of focus and cropping them hasn't helped this much. However, I think the photo's are useful. All of the photo's were taken between days 1 and 6, but I don't unfortunately know when each photo was taken.

Location of right incision

This photo shows the location of the right incision. Many surgeons prefer to do the incisions as high as possible because this leaves the longest distal vas remnant. This tends to lessen the risk of back pressure causing pain during the time the body is adapting to it's sterile state. We don't normally show the penis in photo's but in this case it helps to show the exact location of the incision, and demonstrates how high up it is. If the penis is held out of the way for the photo's this tends to pull on the scrotum, and it's not always easy to see where the incision was made.

Location of left incision

This photo shows the site of the left incision.

Location of incisions

Both incisions are visible in this photo. The right one is clearer than the left. The left incision is to the right of the penis (looking at the picture), and just beneath the pubic hair line.

Left side bruising

Bruising to the left side. I don't unfortunately know when this was taken, but as bruising tends to be after a few days, I'd guess it was taken towards the ends of the sequence.

Many thanks to our contributor for submitting these pictures and allowing us to use them. If you are having a vasectomy, please consider the idea of taking some pictures during your recovery for us to post, as we feel that it will help men know what is, and isn't normal. We aren't looking for just extreme bruising and swelling picture as above, but also pictures of straightforward vasectomy with normal recovery. As with the above pictures, complete anonymity is guaranteed, and for the purposes of taste and decency, photo's will be edited to be shown in a clinical context. If you are happy to participate, please visit the section index page for photographer's tips and the email address to send your pictures to.
