Here are the responses I got when I asked the group how you go about organising a vasectomy in the country you live in:-
"In Australia you either go to your GP (who'll typically give you a referral to a urologist or surgeon, though some may do it themselves), or go to a specialised vasectomy clinic."
"In new zealand you can simply call the nearest Family Planning Clinic, they will let you know when the next available appointment is for an interview, and check. For the operation you have the choice of returning to the clinic (costs around $250 NZ), or going through the public health system for free (but with a waiting period, which is very short for vasectomies, around 1 month). If they are unable to locate the vas, you will have to go through the hospital."
"I'm writing from Singapore, and I don't think things are that different here. The first port of call can be your GP. It is, however, common to approach a hospital or a private consultant directly, which is what I did. What was amusing was that I was shunted from person to person before I was put through to the Urology section of the Surgery Clinic. There is also a Family Planning Centre attached to the maternity hospital, and it's also possible to approach them directly."
"In England you go to your GP who will do a consultation and a physical check. You then will get referred to the local hospital for the procedure which is usually day-case surgery done under a local anaesthetic. The waiting list is on average three months, depending on where you live. Some GP's do the surgery themselves, but this is quite rare. Family planning clinics may be able to refer you to the hospital, but more than likely they will get you to go to your GP for referal. There are a lot of private clinics and hospitals offering vasectomy in their fixed price surgery service. Also the Marie Stopes organisation have clinics in major towns and cities that offer vasectomy."
