Hello, and welcome to Vasectomy Information! If you are considering vasectomy, you've come to the right place! This site is a mixture of general information, advice from our online Doctor, informative articles, contributions from our visitors and carefully selected web links. The links to all of our site content are on the right, below we have some advice for you if you are considering having a vasectomy, and further down is information on our main features and site updates.
Feature in August's Details magazine
I get contacted by journalists and authors on a fairly regular basis asking for input or assistance. I was contacted by Richard Morgan from the Details magazine a while back. He was writing a feature on young, childfree men who had opted for a vasectomy, asking if I knew of anyone who would be willing to be interviewed for the feature. I looked through the stories section, and asked a couple of the contributors if they would be up for it. The response was very positive, and you can read the feature in this months edition of the Details magazine. For a little more on the two featured contributors, please visit the personal experiences section. The contributors were Marcus and Tim #3.
Is vasectomy the right choice for you?
Firstly, we should point out that vasectomy should be considered permanent. It's not a method of birth control that can be turned on or off as required, therefore is not the right choice for everybody and you must be absolutely sure that this is what you want before signing the consent form.
If you are considering the procedure, then the first step is to decide if it's the right choice for you, and it's what you want. To help you through the decision, we have an FAQ section based on the most asked questions in the newsgroup and our Ask the Doctor page. We also have a checklist that follows on from the FAQ that might help you to think of questions to ask your doctor if you go for a pre-vasectomy consultation. As part of the decision making process, you should be considering the risks and benefits as well as any potential complications of the procedure. We have a variety of articles that discuss these important issues, plus links to research articles.
If you have made the decision to go ahead, then you will want to know what procedures are available, the differences between them and their relative risks and benefits. You'll also want to know how to prepare for the procedure and what to expect on the big day.
If you have already undergone the operation, then you will want to know how to take care of yourself afterwards including what is/isn't normal in the way of bruising and swelling and after care in general. Please check the links opposite for information on these topics.

Vasectomy pictures
We have a section of vasectomy pictures submitted by visitors to this site. We are still looking for pictures - especially pictures of straightforward procedures with normal recovery in order to help men know what is, and isn't normal. If you are having a vasectomy, please consider the idea of taking some pictures during your recovery for us to post. Have a look at the pictures page to see what we are trying to achieve, and find out how to submit your recovery photo's. Details of recent additions to this page are below.
May 17. Added a series of pictures demonstrating the site of the vasectomy incisions of one of Dr. Karpman's patients. Also added a series of pictures showing recovery after an open ended vasectomy with foreskin restoration.
Vasectomy stories
In this section, we invite visitors to write about their experiences of vasectomy. We have a wide variety of stories now, dating back to 1999 when the newsgroup started. Every month I pick a story to feature from our collection of site visitors personal experiences. This month I've chosen to feature Rob's story. This story was added in August 2006, and I think it represents what most men will typically experience in the decision making process and the procedure itself.
The newest story was sent in by Chris #3's story. Chris is childfree, and always wanted to have a vasectomy. His story follows through how he went about getting a vasectomy performed, and the procedure itself.
Other recent additions include Marcus' story. He is 23 and childfree. He's also contributed pictures of his recovery. Also, an update to Andy #4's story posted on May 15. Andy had his vasectomy done at a Marie Stopes clinic in London, and the story documents his recovery.
Please visit the new vasectomy stories page for the full list of recent additions.
